When we moved from Norfolk to Leeds in 2007 to go to uni, we started visiting a lot more independent restaurants, cafés and bars. Now we're back in Norfolk, and we've found ourselves going back to the same old chains again, and becoming thoroughly uninspired. So on the 25th September 2011, we decided that as of the following January 1st, when eating or drinking out, we would do so only in independent restaurants and cafés, forgoing any coffee shop, sandwich stop or drive through which is part of a chain.
We're hoping to discover the hidden local gems and at the same time, some wonderful food and drink. Our Independent Year is where we will be documenting the adventure, and where you can come and read all about it!
We both hope you will enjoy reading about it as much as we will hopefully enjoy the challenge!
